PHOTO CHRISTIAN HAGEN FOR BIG BOOK

BigBook

In a class of cutlery inaccessible to most, the knives of outspoken Flemish craftsman Antoine van Loocke more closely resemble works of intricate art, than objects of industrial design. The heartwarming yet sarcastic philosopher, humbly recognises that his ornate damask blades have earned their nobility through their presence on the country’s finest dining tables, where Art and Gastronomy merge in exceptional unison. BigBook was fortunate enough to accompany chef Christopher Hardiquest, the creative mind behind infamous Bonbon **, to meet his friend and supplier in the outskirts of Ghent. Over a cup of coffee we find common ground discussing artistic visions without compromise, with both minds finding inspiration in anecdotes, human encounters and material limitations, creating timeless expressions in their respective domains.
